Korrie's Story

Picture
_My Name is Korrie, I am 15 years old. I was diagnosed in January 2011 with RSD/CRPS. I  have RSD/CRPS in my right  right foot, ankle & leg. It all started from a sprained ankle a couple years ago and it has traveled though my entire leg.  The only way to describe my daily pain is to replace the blood flow through my right lower limb with gasoline, lite it on fire and take a blunt knife and start randomly stabbing me in various places, whether it be my ankle, my calf, my knee , or my thigh. It hurts all the time no matter what drugs or treatment that I have been through. To say the least it has been complete and utter torture. I have been from doctor to doctor and even admitted to the hospital. I have had epidurals and nerve blocks, procedure after procedure. The only thing that has kept me mobile is my physical therapy twice a week and a very caring physical therapist that cares about me and wants to see me well.  RSD/CPRS has completely changed my life. I was living like a normal teenager. I was going to football games, having sleepovers, shopping, going to the movies and waiting to start track in the spring. Then it all came to an end. It makes it really hard to be a normal teenager. It has taken a toll on my relationships with my friends. It is very hard to see them and not know what was going on with all of them. It has made me very depressed over the past year, I cry myself to sleep most of the time and after school. School is very hard; all the medications and the constant pain makes it very hard to concentrate and I run out of energy very quickly and easily. I also missed a lot of school last year due to either having physical therapy, doctor’s appointments, or in surgery. But as the hard working and dedicated student that I am, I worked it out with my teacher’s and  with the help an support of all my family I still managed to get all A's! This year I have missed a lot of school already and I know I will miss plenty more. But I still have all A's . :)
